A man who grabbed a knife and went to aid his mother after a group of youths kicked in their door had sentence deferred by Sheriff Elizabeth Munro.
Steven Jordan Breen, 20, of Tayview Flats, Dundee, took the kitchen knife and then hid it in the common close after police arrived, the court heard.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said at 6pm on April 28, his mother called 999 after youths kicked in their front door.
When police arrived, the youths were acting aggressively towards the woman, shouting at her, she said.
Police heard the youths shouting and swearing at the accused, daring him to “get that blade out”.
He admitted he had grabbed a knife from the kitchen and it was found in the common close.
He told police: “What would you have done, four boys kick in your door and your mum is going after them?”
Ms Robertson told the court Breen had 433 days unexpired from a previous sentence. Solicitor David Duncan told the court the two youths responsible for the original incident had pleaded guilty to the offence.
Sheriff Munro granted Breen bail for the preparation of reports.
Sentence was deferred until April 1.
