Three times this season, Airdrie have opened the scoring against Brechin and on each occasion they have gone on to win the match now Glebe gaffer Darren Dods is determined his side will draw first blood this afternoon and halt that dismal sequence of results.
City’s game against Stenhousemuir last weekend was abandoned at half-time because of snow covering the Ochilview pitch with the home side leading 1-0.
Now, Brechin are looking to take out their frustrations by securing the first victory of the season over their bogey team as they bid to haul themselves off the foot of the League One table.
Dods said: “It was disappointing that last week’s game ended the way it did. It had only happened to me once before when I was playing for Dundee United against Rangers because of torrential rain.
“That game was called off at half-time and once again we were losing 1-0.
“That is two games we will now have to fit in at some point in midweek after our match with Forfar was postponed but I am not too concerned about a potential fixture pile-up at the moment.
“If they had been games far away like Stranraer they might have been a bit more of a problem with guys needing time off work.
“Hopefully, the Glebe will be in good condition for Saturday and the game goes ahead without any hitches.
“Airdrie have definitely been a bogey team for us so far this season, beating us in the cup and twice in the league.
“They are always well organised but we have run them close. However, I feel the first goal will be vital.
“They have managed to get it in the three previous games but if we can turn that around, then hopefully we can go on at home and take all three points.”
Brechin will be without the suspended Jonathan Tiffoney.
