Police have appealed to fans to ensure the New Year’s Day derby between Dundee United and Aberdeen is remembered for all the right reasons.
The game is a complete sell-out, with around 3500 Aberdeen fans expected to join home fans at the match.
The match commander, Chief Superintendent Craig Suttie, hopes that fans of both sides will enjoy the occasion in seasonal good cheer.
He said: “We are looking forward to what we are sure will be an excellent New Year’s Day fixture between these north east rivals and we want both sets of supporters enjoy the occasion in the correct manner.
“As ever, we have worked closely with both clubs in advance of the game and we will be there on the day, working alongside the stewards to help keep them safe. We expect both sets of supporters to be considerate and law-abiding before during and after the fixture.
“Officers will be present and available to assist them where required, but they will also deal effectively with anyone who is involved in any disorder or criminal behaviour.”
Police will be active outside the ground and there will be stop-checks carried out on supporters’ buses en route to the game.
With a crowd of around 14,000 expected, fans are being advised to leave plenty of time to get to the ground and into the stadium for the 3pm kick-off.
