Taxi fares in Dundee will rise by 4p on most tariffs, 6p during the festive period and there will also be an additional £1 charge for credit card transactions coming into effect in April.
The changes, which equate to an extra 10p per mile, were approved by Dundee City Council’s licensing committee as part of its annual review of taxi fares.
The committee heard that payment by credit card has been a long-running issue among taxi drivers, who have to pay to process such payments, often resulting in some drivers refusing to accept them.
A council officer reported discussions had been ongoing and a £1 surcharge per journey had been recommended, which he said was an average based on the cost of transactions to taxi operators.
The proposals will now be advertised and, subject to objections, the tariffs will take effect from April 1.
