A Dundee cyclist who rode the wrong way down the Kingsway without lights or reflective clothing in the middle of the night has been fined.
Concerned motorists contacted the police after spotting Carol McPherson at around 3.30am beside Tesco Extra last November.
The 40-year-old was then spotted carrying out a “figure of eight” manouevre on the dual carriageway shortly afterwards.
Depute fiscal Jim Eodonable told Dundee Sheriff Court: “Visibilty was poor and officers saw the accused travelling against the flow of traffic.
“The accused was seen performing a figure of eight and she was stopped and taken into custody.
“The officers were concerned for her at that point.
“There had been a very similar incident last year and considerable resources had been deployed.”
Brian Cooney, defending, said: “She was on the bike at the top of the carriageway and got spooked when she saw the police van.
“She panicked and drove the wrong way down the road. She feels embarrassed to be in this situation.”
McPherson was due to stand trial but entered a last-minute guilty plea.
McPherson, of Fullarton Street, admitted cycling dangerously on the Kingsway with no lights or reflective clothing on November 10.
In fining McPherson £160, Sheriff Lorna Drummond told her: “It’s obviously dangerous to ride around without reflective clothing and the wrong way down the carriageway.
“I am going to draw a line under it today.”
