Electrical fault closes Perth and Kinross Council’s headquarters

Hundreds of workers based at Perth and Kinross Council’s headquarters were sent home early on Wednesday due to an “electrical fault”.
Staff at 2 High Street in Perth were told to leave at 4pm and the building was closed.
Councillors, senior managers, accountants, lawyers and human resources staff are among 200 people based at the local authority HQ. The closure was announced on the council’s Twitter page an hour before the building was shut.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We expect to be open as normal again tomorrow morning,” the statement said.
Members of the council’s public relations team, who were also asked to leave the building at 4pm, were kept in the dark about the problem.
A spokeswoman for the council said: “All the details we have are that it’s an electrical issue, and for it to be dealt with, the power has to be turned off.”
