A furious husband was locked up after punching his wife in the head because she let their pet dog sleep in the marital bed.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that Peter Nicol, 42, was so angry with his wife Paula’s indulgent attitude towards the dog that he punched her in the head during a blazing row.
The father-of-one was arrested when his wife called in the police and spent a night in a police cell before appearing from custody to admit domestic assault at the court.
Nicol, Potterhill Gardens, Perth, admitted assaulting his wife Paula by punching her on the head at the family home on January 31. He was ordered to be of good behaviour for nine months.
Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson told the court: “The couple have been married eight years and have one child. An argument seems to have occurred at the weekend because Mrs Nicol decided that the family dog should be allowed to sleep on the end of the matrimonial bed.
“This was a decision with which Mr Nicol clearly disagreed. He pushed the dog from the bed and an argument began.
“At that point he punched his wife on the head.”
Solicitor Billy Somerville, defending, said Nicol would be staying with his parents in the immediate future as he was not sure he would be returning to the family home.
Sheriff Fiona Tait deferred sentence until December and told Nicol she was giving him time to see his GP and seek help for any issues he has with alcohol.
“I will defer sentence and I want you to take the opportunity to see your GP. There are obviously issues,” she said
