The family of a Brechin boy who was seriously injured in a road accident were last night praying for his recovery.
The seven-year-old boy was knocked off his bike while attempting to cross North Latch Road at around 5pm on Wednesday evening and was left in a critical condition after suffering a head injury and breaking his leg and pelvis.
The boy’s grand-father has told of the family’s shock.
“My grandson has a broken leg and pelvis and some internal injuries,” he said.
“He’s at Ninewells with his mum and dad and he’s having an operation. Bones will heel, but it’s the internal injuries everyone is worried about. But he’s a fit lad and hopefully he’ll bounce back.
“We were looking after him so, of course, we are stressed out and my wife feels guilty. We don’t blame the driver at all. She was obviously devastated by what happened.
“He’s in good hands and we are all just thinking about him. He’s such an action man, very into quad bikes and go-karts and he’s very outdoorsy. It all happened so quickly and we are just in shock.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland Tayside Division said the child’s condition had changed from “critical” to “serious but stable” and remained so on Thursday night.
