Loganair have been cautiously optimistic about customer interest in their new Dundee to London Stansted route, reporting an encouraging volume of ticket sales.
Tickets for the service, which takes off from Riverside on Sunday March 30, went on sale on Tuesday morning.
Loganair said glitches with the reporting system over the first two days of online sales made it tricky to accurately measure the number of seats sold.
The problem now appears to be solved and, while exact figures of sales are deemed by airlines to be commercially sensitive, an insider said initial purchases were extremely positive.
Phil Preston, chief operating officer at Loganair, said: “We are pleased with the interest shown from the first 48 hours of sales, especially given there are still eight weeks until the inaugural flight on March 30.
“While the route will be popular with tourists, our main customer base is business passengers who traditionally aren’t in a position to book flights until nearer the departure date, so the volume of ticket purchases we have seen this early is encouraging.
“London Stansted is a major hub airport, acting as a gateway for passengers to the city of London. With a schedule tailored to meet the needs of business customers, this is a very important transport link for Dundee.”
The service will run twice on weekdays and once on Sundays.
