A woman was rescued from the river Tay in Perth following a full scale emergency operation.
Officers from Police Scotland received reports of someone entering the water at Smeaton’s Bridge just after 1.40pm.
Using a throw line, they managed to secure the woman and bring her to the river bank, near Kinnoull Church.
Approximately 25 firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance, along with three appliances, a technical support unit and the river rescue craft.
Group manager for Perth and Kinross, Rab Middlemiss told The Courier: “A couple of firefighters entered the water after police made use of their throw line, which they always carry with them.
“I commend the actions of the police officers who made good use of their throw line and enabled specialist trained firefighters to enter the water to carry out the rescue.
“Along with the paramedics, this was a successful team effort.”
Mr Middlemiss also thanked members of the public for raising the alarm and ensuring the rescue efforts got underway so quickly.
He added: “Thankfully this was a successful outcome on this occasion after the large amount of tragedies we have had in and around the river Tay in Perth.”
