Michael Sutherland, 19, of Gayfield, Arbroath, appeared at court on Tuesday following the incident on June 29. He admitted driving with no MOT and at excess speed on the A933 Arbroath to Brechin Road at Cairnie Road. The court heard officers carrying out speed checks had clocked Sutherland at around 12.30am as he made his way home. Defence agent Nick Whelan said Sutherland is attending Dundee College with a view to gaining an NC qualification in engineering. He added: “He accepts it was a high speed. Being a new driver anything more than five points would result in him reverting to a provisional licence. “He feels if he lost his licence he may have to give up his college course.” Sheriff Peter Paterson said travelling at 63mph in a built up area merited a disqualification. Sutherland was banned from driving for six months and fined £200.
