Salmond row shows ‘powerful forces’ attacking faith, says moderator
ByMark Mackay
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland has criticised “powerful forces” who he says are determined to diminish the voice of faith in society.
The Right Rev Dr Angus Morrison said there is a campaign across Scotland and beyond to try to silence Christians permanently “and in fact the voice of faith of whatever kind” but he pledged that they are not “going anywhere”.
He spoke out after former First Minister Alex Salmond was heavily criticised after admitting that he prefers “people of faith to people of no faith or people who have lost their faith”.

Mr Salmond’s statement was made in a short video for the Church of Scotland and sparked a storm of protest, with groups such as the Scottish Secular Society and Humanist Society Scotland describing them as “controversial and divisive”, “deeply inappropriate” and “appalling”.
