Dundee United captain says cup is as important as league

Dundee United captain Sean Dillon is the last survivor from the Tangerines’ Scottish Cup-winning side of 2010.

And the Irishman views the quarter-final clash with Ross County, the team they beat six years ago at Hampden, as every bit as important as their league matches.

“If you’re still in a competition, especially the cup, you want to win it,” Dillon said.

“I know people are talking about it being a break from the league but for me it doesn’t make any difference. It’s a big game. We put pressure on ourselves to win every game.

“I imagine there will be more fans there than there were last week. Cup games are big games for the fans, especially the away ones, so we want to make sure we make the fans happy over the weekend.

“You want to please the fans anyway, regardless of whether it’s a day out for them or not, you want to keep them happy.

“Obviously this season we can’t say we have made them happy but we will do our best in this game and put everything into it.”
