Checkout this unique safety video from a Dundee supermarket

Staff at a Dundee supermarket are refusing to put a price on safety – even if it costs them a little dignity.

For Scottish First Aid Week, staff at the store agreed to take part in a video showing what to do if someone begins choking.

Made in conjunction with St Andrews First Aid, the video shows four members of staff enjoying their lunch.

But in a terrifying twist, one of the men begins to choke on his food.

Luckily, a first aider paying bfor his shopping at the checkout is on hand to rush to his aid.

He then demonstrates how to help someone who is choking, either by slapping them on the back of performing abdominal thrusts, known as the Heimlich Manoeuvre, to dislodge the object.

The video was filmed in Sainsbury’s store at Claypotts and was posted online this week.

And while the acting may not quite be Oscar-worthy, their performances are more than good enough to save lives.

Jim Byrne, deputy manager at Sainsbury’s Dundee, said: “We’re very proud that our colleagues have supported our local charity partner, St Andrew’s First Aid.

“I know they enjoyed taking part in the video and it’s a great way to inform people about the basic rules of first aid.”

Scottish First Aid Week targets is aimed at encouraging Scots to think about and learn basic First Aid.

The campaign aims to build awareness of the fact that First Aid saves lives and the need of individuals and business to gain basic First Aid skills that could save a life.
