A Kirkcaldy man who attacked a love rival with a 10-inch knife in a bedroom has been jailed for 14 months.
Jordan Slaven, 18, armed himself with the kitchen knife after he received a taunting message about his ex-girlfriend.
Slaven hired a taxi to take him to Turpie Road, Leven, after he was sent a message by his ex’s new boyfriend stating that he was sleeping in her bed.
Enraged Slaven, of East March Street, burst into the house and made his way to the bedroom to confront Andrew Dick. He slashed at Mr Dick with the blade, striking him over the eye before he was pushed to the ground.
At a hearing last month, Sheriff Max Hendry was told that Slaven continued to swing the knife at his love rival and hit him on the lower back and left hand. However, Mr Dick was able to gain the upper hand, disarming Slaven and punching him on the face.
Mr Dick then took the knife outside into the garden, only for Slaven to retrieve the blade and face off with the complainer again.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia told Sheriff Hendry the incident was a “love triangle gone wrong”.
He said: “The accused was in a relationship with a woman that broke down prior to this incident. The complainer was staying at her house overnight when the attack occurred. The accused became enraged and left where he was. He barged into thebedroom and began swinging at Mr Dick.”
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Thursday, Sheriff Hendry told Slaven that not to send him to jail would “send the wrong message to society about how such behaviour is tolerated.”
He added: “Armed with a 10-inch knife, you went to one particular place, for one particular person. That sort crime is simply unacceptable to society. You could at this time be standing in the High Court charged with murder.”
Slaven admitted that, on May 6 2013 at an address in Turpie Road, Leven, he assaulted Andrew Dick and entered the premises uninvited, where he repeatedly struck him on the head and body with a knife to his injury. He committed the offence five days after having been granted bail.
