A former army man thrust an eight-inch kitchen knife at his partner and daughter as he thought they were having an affair.
Perth Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that Alasdair Burke, 49, of Bridgend Court, Main Street, Perth, also accused his daughter whom he had not seen for 16 years of being lazy when she stayed with him, and claimed her bedroom was “more akin” to that of a younger teenager.
Depute fiscal Carol Whyte said Burke had been in a relationship with his partner for 12 years.
She told the court he had grabbed his 19-year-old daughter by the hair and pushed her on to a chair.
“The accused told his daughter around 10am that he had a cup of tea for her but when she came through to get this he accused her of being lazy,” she said.
“He came in the room with a knife and began waving it around at both the girl and his partner he lunged towards them.”
When later questioned by police, he told them that “all hell broke loose” but claimed the women’s claims about the incident had been exaggerated.
Solicitor Jamie Baxter, defending, said that his client was convinced the two women were having an affair and that he had not seen his daughter for 16 years after she was brought up in Australia.
Mr Baxter told the court his client had been in the army but had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and combat stress.
Burke had admitted that between January 1 2013 and January 31 2013, at an address in Bridgend Court, Perth, he assaulted a woman by grabbing her by her hair and pushing her on her back, causing her to fall.
He also admitted that on May 21 2013 he assaulted the same woman and his partner by presenting a knife at them and thrusting it towards them.
Sentence was deferred by the court until June 25 to allow for background reports to be completed on Burke.
