A drug addict who bit a 64-year-old woman’s finger close to the bone during a robbery has been jailed for 19 months.
Kirsty Wilson, 33, entered the pensioner’s home while she was caring for her nine-year-old granddaughter two days after Christmas.
The two grappled over the pensioner’s purse and Wilson struck then bit the woman to free the bag from her grasp.
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday, depute fiscal Dev Kapadia stated that the 64-year-old suffered four puncture marks on her fingers.
He said: “One puncture was particularly deep and close to the bone. She required numerous vaccinations and medication to counter any possible diseases from the bites.”
Sheriff Max Hendry heard the pensioner lived alone and was in a great deal of pain on a daily basis due to suffering from osteoporosis, arthritis, and angina.
On December 27 last year she was watching TV around 7pm with her granddaughter when the accused entered her home uninvited.
Mr Kapadia said the complainer “saw the accused approach her handbag and then saw what she believed to be a purse hidden behind her back.”
He added: “She challenged the accused and there was a struggle between the two in the hallway and kitchen. They were grappling over the purse and she was struck several times by the accused. During the struggle she was bitten on the hand.”
The victim’s granddaughter saw Wilson remove £20 from the purse and then throw the bag on the kitchen floor.
Solicitor Kelly Howe said that her client had battled drug addiction and could not remember anything that happened during the incident.
Sheriff Hendry said: “I suspect this is something that will live with the victim for the remainder of her life.”
Wilson, a prisoner at Edinburgh, admitted that, at an address in Kirkcaldy, she assaulted a 64-year-old and entered her property uninvited, struggled violently with her, forcibly seized a purse from her hands, bit her on the hands to her injury and robbed her. She also admitted later spitting in a police officer’s face.
