The company behind an ambitious £4 million redevelopment of Dalgety Bay is pleased by the level of community support it says it has received.
The Scarborough Muir Group (SMG), which owns the entrance site to Donibristle Industrial Estate, wants to breathe new life into the area in a plan which could bring 100 new jobs with it.
The company has revealed a 92% level of community support for its plans to develop the site as a gateway for the town.
The figure is contained in a public consultation summary which has been lodged this week together with the planning application to Fife Council.
SMG held a well-attended public event in May and has also consulted with the wider community.
It has owned the 2.13 hectare site since 2007. However, the existing buildings, which date from the 1950s, have now come to the end of their usable life.
SMG said the industrial estate is in much need of ancillary uses to support the existing occupiers and attract new businesses.
Plans are to demolish the existing buildings and redevelop the site to provide: a new purpose-built Play Planet for the children’s indoor play centre; a new business unit to accommodate existing operator York EMC Services; a small supermarket for Aldi; a restaurant with licensed pub for Marston’s Inns and Taverns; a drive-thru coffee shop/restaurant; parking for 238 cars; and landscaping improvements.
William McAlister of SMG said the firm was delighted with the high level of interest shown in the proposals, particularly the widespread support from the Dalgety Bay community, who welcomed its plans to retain valuable existing businesses, as well as the prospect of bringing a new Aldi store and Marston’s restaurant with licensed bar to the site.
“These proposals will not only benefit the wider Dalgety Bay community but specifically provide new facilities to the existing and new businesses within Donibristle and Hillend industrial estates.”
He said the firm also appreciated the interest shown by the community council. A decision is expected early next year.
