The parents of pupils at Forfar Academy have received a letter from a council education chief expressing her shock that a teacher at the school admitted making indecent photographs of children.
Last week Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Gordon Milne, 33, set up a hidden camera to secretly film a teenage girl as she undressed and showered.
The IT and computing teacher hid a mobile phone in a bathroom to record the footage, which he later downloaded to his laptop.
Police subsequently discovered the video and more than 1,500 indecent images of children.
The letter, sent to parents of every pupil at the school from the council’s head of schools and learning Pauline Stephen, informs them of the court case and outlines support available for pupils.
It states: “The nature of the offences is deeply shocking for young people, staff, parents and all members of the wider school community.
“We have been let down by someone who was a trusted colleague and teacher. We are working with pupils and staff to support them into the new term and to help them move on from this incident.”
Milne, now of Raitt, Blairgowrie, admitted possessing indecent photographs of children and taking or making indecent photographs of children between November 2011 and January 2013.
The court heard he was arrested at a teaching conference in a Carnoustie hotel, with his laptop recovered from his car.
A further warrant was obtained and police recovered a mobile phone, laptop and other electronic equipment from his home. A total of 1,535 images and 13 videos were found on the devices.
There was no evidence Milne had distributed the images or videos.
Sheriff Tom Hughes placed Milne on the sex offenders register and granted bail ahead of sentencing on May 30.
When the news broke last Wednesday, pupils at the school took to social media sites to express their concerns and confusion.
Angus Council has confirmed that Milne has been suspended since being charged and that they are now proceeding with disciplinary action.
The General Teaching Council of Scotland has been informed.
