Drive to protect Perth’s party-goers during festive season
ByJamie Buchan
An unprecedented safety drive has been launched in Perth in the run-up to Hogmanay.
The campaign led by police, church groups and wardens aims to keep festive revellers safe and out of trouble, while also getting them home in one piece, and for the first time a lifeline coach service will run through the city centre.
Police have also pledged to increase high visibility patrols around bars and clubs day and night. They will be backed by community wardens and street pastors.
The social enterprise Giraffe caf will become a night time base of operations throughout the week-long initiative.
A spokeswoman for the Community Safety Partnership said the strategy had been drawn up to address pressures caused by people trying to get in and out of the city centre during the day and home at night.
