One of Fife’s oldest citizens, Jean Craig, has died at the age of 100.
Born in Leslie in November 1914, she spent her early life in the village, but for a brief spell in Dundee where she attended Wallacetown Primary.
Leaving school at 14, she went to work at the Fettykil Paper Mill, working her way to the position of machine keeper during her seven years there.
In 1932, at a dance at the Mitchell Hall in Kinglassie, she met Bobby Craig, who she married in October 1935.
The couple had two daughters, Ella and Louisa, before her husband left for the Second World War.
Their third daughter, Jean, was born in 1954.
The couple had already settled in Kinglassie, where Jean spent the rest of her life, becoming a well-known local figure who helped her husband run the local bakery from 1955 to 1973.
A keen knitter and a member of the Women’s Rural Institute, she was also a regular attender at Kinglassie Parish Church.
Jean was still living independently when she celebrated her 100th birthday in November.
She is survived by her three daughters, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
