A Broughty Ferry councillor has united with locals to oppose changes to electoral boundaries.
Kevin Cordell initially supported proposals to adjust the boundaries of a number of wards, including the Ferry, to ensure the same ratio between councillors and constituents across the city.
The changes would mean two new councillors joining the local authority. Part of western Broughty Ferry would move to the East End council ward.
Despite earlier supporting the proposals, Mr Cordell has written to the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland and said no changes should be made to the city’s wards.
However, as the consultation closed on October 22 2015, his response can only be acknowledged rather than formally received.
He joins the view of fellow Ferry councillors Derek Scott and Laurie Bidwell that no change is best. Council leader Ken Guild is now the only Ferry councillor supporting changes.
Mr Cordell said: “Clearly this issue affects my ward and constituents but…I believed I was doing the best thing for everyone across the city.
“However, having continued to study the proposals and outcomes, I have come to a different conclusion.
“Everyone knows where ‘The Ferry’ starts and ends.
“And even though this was a procedural change, it does affect people’s perceptions.”
