Carnoustie power cut plunges hundreds of homes into darkness
ByThe Courier Reporter
Homes in Carnoustie were plunged into darkness following a power cut.
Approximately 1,600 properties were left without power during Friday afternoon through to the evening as Scottish Hydro Electric and Power (SHE) repaired the fault.
The failure first affected homes in the afternoon but power initially came back on.
However, a further wave hit the town around tea time, plunging many parts of the town into darkness.
Trains were also delayed on the East Coast line as the power cut took its toll.
A spokeswoman for SHE confirmed the repairs had been completed by around 8pm and power was back to all but 15 homes.
She said: “Power was initially lost to 1,169 homes at around 4.09pm but the majority of which had their power restored within about 40 minutes.
“The engineers will continue to examine the line to establish the cause of the fault.”
