The new Mearns Academy has turned down the chance of TV fame.
Aberdeenshire Council was approached by the makers of Educating Essex and Educating Yorkshire in their search for a school north of the border to bring the cameras to for the next fly-on-the-wall documentary series.
But the Laurencekirk school’s head teacher, Ian Parkin, told a meeting of Mearns community council the timetable for completion of the new £23 million school due to open in August meant the plan was not feasible.
The Channel 4 series gives an insight into the lives of teachers and pupils and has received a number of awards, including a Bafta.
The warts-and-all series ran with seven Educating Essex episodes in 2011, followed by Educating Yorkshire last year.
December also saw the screening of a Christmas special of the goings-on at Thornhill Community Academy near Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, which helped the programme to a 2014 best documentary National Television Award.
A spokesman for Channel 4 said: “We are definitely planning another series, but we are not proceeding with any schools in Aberdeenshire.”
Aberdeenshire Council confirmed the approach, but said they had no formal plans with Channel 4.
St Joseph’s Academy in Kilmarnock was also a candidate for the series, but told producers they did not wish to take part.
