Dundee 1 Cowdenbeath 2: Dark Blues ‘owe the fans’ after dismal display
ByNeil Robertson
Jim McAlister says the Dundee players owe their fans a big performance and result against Alloa this weekend to make up for Saturday’s dispiriting defeat to Cowdenbeath.
The Dark Blues were knocked off the top of the Championship table just seven days after they had climbed to the summit with Jimmy Nicholl’s basement battlers coming to Dens and deservedly taking all three points with a 2-1 victory.
The final whistle was greeted with a barrage of boos from the home fans and McAlister admits that was the response the players deserved after the result and display.
He said: “We will certainly not start to feel sorry for ourselves. If we did that, we would begin heading down the league.
“It is a good dressing-room and there is a real togetherness there.
“I am sure the boys will be ready for next week. It will not be an easy game but we have had a decent run away from home and hopefully we can continue that.
“We definitely owe the fans one. They pay their money to come and support us. They have an opinion and also have every right to boo us after watching that.”
