St Johnstone’s Nigel Hasselbaink admits he was baffled by the barracking he received from the St Mirren boo boys on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Dutchman left the Paisley side to join the Perth outfit two summers ago.
The parting of the ways wasn’t acrimonious so Hasselbaink is scratching his head as to exactly why his former “Buddies” were so hostile.
He said: “I’m not too sure why they were giving me such a hard time. It was probably just because I am an ex-St Mirren player.
“I can’t think of any other reason as I felt I did well for them when I was there but I still don’t know why they were doing that.
“It’s not really a big deal as it is all about us taking the three points and for me to have a good game.”
A section of the St Johnstone home support also gave a “warm welcome” to one of their former favourites Danny Grainger, who now plies his trade with the Paisley side, in the 2-0 victory.
However, Hasselbaink insists players have too much to worry about on the pitch to pay attention to barracking off it.
He said: “It seems normal for the supporters to do that and it is something you just have to get on with.
“There is not much you can do as a player. You just have to concentrate on what you are doing on the pitch and it is up to the fans to do what they want.”
