Brechin City followed up their good away win at Arbroath last weekend with a comprehensive and deserved 3-1 victory against Ayr United at Somerset Park.
Gerry McLauchlan, who has been out through injury for the past four weeks, marked his return to first-team action by heading home the opening goal after 12 minutes when he perfectly met a Bobby Barr corner.
City were two up after 33 minutes when a cross from trialist Ryan Ferguson was diverted into his own net by Ayr defender Kyle McAusland.
The hosts managed to pull a goal back in the 79th minute when defender Gordon Pope fired home from the edge of the penalty box but City wrapped up the points right at the death when Graham Hay converted from the penalty spot after substitute Derek Carcary had been brought down in the box by Alan Lithgow.
City manager Ray McKinnon was clearly delighted.
“The boys played extremely well today and it was a very good team performance along with some outstanding individual displays,” he said.
“Somerset Park is always a very tough place to pick up points as Ayr are a very difficult team to play against so to come here and go away with all three points is very pleasing.”
Ryan Ferguson impressed on his debut before being replaced after 84 minutes by Steven Robb and the City boss also confirmed that he had spoken to another possible signing target .
McKinnon said: “I spoke to a player this morning and hopefully developments will move forward later on in the week.”
