East Fife suffered a third successive League 2 defeat to fall five points behind the play-off berths but Saturday’s defeat at Broadwood could have been a lot worse but for the heroics of keeper Ryan Goodfellow.
The ex-Dunfermline stopper almost single-handedly kept Clyde at bay, particularly with a string of magnificent saves in the second period.
Afterwards midfielder Kyle Wilkie admitted Gary Naysmith’s side were a “yard off the pace”.
“Before this two-and-a-half week break attacking wise we were great,” he said.
“We seem to be doing a bit better defensively but on the attacking not as great. We just have to get it together to get a win.”
The Bully Wee almost made the perfect start but were denied in six minutes by a terrific double save by Good- fellow.
Scott Linton ripped open the Methil defence but Scott Ferguson was denied by Goodfellow, who raced out to block and then he recovered to make a stunning stop from former Fife player Scott Durie, who raced in from the right to fire a 15-yard angled effort on target.
Goodfellow could do nothing when Clyde deservedly went in front in 34 minutes.
Linton whipped in a terrific cross from the left which was knocked on by David Marsh for Ferguson, unmarked at the back post, to volley high into the net from eight yards.
The Methil men showed little in attack but, might have levelled when a Nathan Austin header from a Naysmith corner was cleared off the line by Linton.
Austin then saw a chance saved by Clyde keeper John Gibson before Ferguson sealed the points five minutes from time with a terrific 25-yard strike.
