Steven MacLean wants to finish his career with St Johnstone.
The striker has signed a one-year extension to a contract that was due to run out in the summer, with an option of another season after that.
And the Scottish Cup final hero believes there are still plenty of good years left in him.
“Everything had been agreed a wee while ago and me and the chairman had a chat this week to get it sealed,” he said. “There was no problem. That was that.
“It’s a year with the option of another if I play a certain amount of games.
“I didn’t even think about looking elsewhere.
“When you find a club that suits you, you don’t want to leave.
“And we’ve had a lot of success as well, which helps. We’ve always finished top six and we’ve won a cup as well, and there’s been all the European games. There’s not been a disappointing season.
“Obviously I’ve had a couple of lows with injuries, but all in all it’s been a great few years.”
MacLean, who arrived at McDiarmid Park in the summer of 2012, added: “As a striker you have to adapt and I’d like to think I’ve done that. I’ve played one up front, and I’ve played deeper. The only thing I can’t do is play out wide!
“Hopefully I can finish my career here. I feel great, the knee’s good, and I feel fitter than when I was younger.
“Touch wood I can stay fit and play for another few years at the top level. I’ve not had pace since I was 16 so I don’t need to worry about losing that!”
MacLean got back on the goal trail at Celtic Park last weekend after a barren run of games, and he’s aiming to keep it going at Tynecastle tomorrow.
He said: “Do you know what, I’ve actually played better in the games before it and not scored. But that’s football for you.
“When I was on that run of goals my link-up play maybe wasn’t quite as good but I was getting chances and taking them.
“Hopefully that goal will be the start of another run, especially with this cup game coming up.”
Manager Tommy Wright said: “I’m really pleased to get it done. He’s been an influential player for us.
“It’s been in the pipeline so it’s a good boost for him and I’m sure it will give the supporters something to smile about.
“On and off the pitch he is a leader and a strong character in the dressing room.
“We want him to get in the box, most of his goals have been in the six yard box this year. I’m really pleased he got the goal against Celtic on Saturday.”
