Model railway enthusiasts steamed into Dundee this weekend for a hobbies extravaganza.
The 2013 Model Railway Exhibition and Hobbies Extravaganza, which took place at the Dundee International Sports Centre, attracted hundreds of visitors from Tayside and beyond.
On display were a wide variety of tracks and trains used across Scotland, as well as many from further afield. The annual event, which has been running for more than 20 years, was organised by the Dundee Model Railway Club.
One notable highlight included a stand by the Association des Modelistes Ferroviaires du Centre, a model railway club from Dundee-twinned city, Orleans.
Sabine, who has been coming to the exhibition with the French club for 14 years, said: “It is so great to be back at the exhibition. Everyone has been so welcoming and convivial the atmosphere is great. We love it here.”
“Three of us travelled by car with a small truck for the items, while the rest of us the ones who are not retired flew over.”
“My husband and I have been coming here for 14 years I think, but the club as a whole has been coming over for 20 years this year I believe.
“If so, it is really lovely to be here for the anniversary,” she added.
The club displayed a fictional track from the area, featuring buildings from the 1950s and 1960s, including a model of a house in which Joan of Arc once stayed.
Alongside the model railway stands, a variety of other hobbies were also given a good show at the event.
The Dundee Indoor Flying Club, Kirriemuir Wargames Club, the Radio-Controlled Car Club and the Scottish Model Engineering Trust all featured, as did the Dundee Model Boat Club.
A Scalextric stall also offered racing enthusiasts the chance to compete for the fastest lap time. Guide Dogs for the Blind, Dundee Model Rail Club’s sponsored charity, also had a stand.
Meanwhile, the Dance Studio at the sports complex was taken over as a trading floor for hobby-enthusiasts hunting for a bargain.
Malcolm Pakes from Dundee Model Rail Club said: “The event has a huge amount of variety it is not just model railways.
“Last year we had 1,300 people attend over the two days and hopefully this time we will have had more.”
The Dundee Model Rail Club, officially formed in 1950, holds meetings on Monday and Friday evenings at 2-4 Huntly Square.
