Forfar Athletic legends, including many from the triumphant 1983-84 team, were reunited at Station Park on Saturday.
A number of faces from the club’s first title-winning side made a welcome visit to the new lounge named in their honour the 1984 Lounge.
Former Forfar player and assistant manager Billy Bennett and ex-player boss Archie Knox arranged the reunion of ex-Loons to tie in with Saturday’s cup replay at home against Queen’s Park.
Captain of the 1983-84 second division championship side and club record appearance holder Ian McPhee was joined by legends such as Alex Brash, Kenny Brown, John Clark, Rab Morris, Ray Farningham and Billy Gallacher.
Also in attendance was striker John Mitchell, whose playing career ended in 1982 when he sustained spinal injuries in a car crash before a fourth-round Scottish Cup tie against Hearts at Tynecastle.
Among those joining the early 1980s contingent was Dave Nicoll, goalkeeper of the club’s 1978 League Cup semi-final team, fellow stopper Raymond Allan, and Kenny Ward and Gary Murray, both of whom made a big contribution to the club’s second-tier success in the mid-1980s.
Knox, who was player-boss from 1976-80, made the trip to Station Park despite the fact he was still slightly recovering from recent back surgery.
Chairman Alastair Donald said all of the former players in attendance had played an important role in the history of the Loons.
The club legends were happy to pose for photographs with fans and they recounted goals scored and saves made as the day progressed.
Forfar Athletic became Scottish second division championship winners in the 1983-84 season and clinched promotion for the first time, with Doug Houston as manager.
They went on to record the best ever points total by a team going up from the first or second divisions since re-organisation a record that can never be broken, now that three points are awarded for a win instead of two.
Throughout the 39-game campaign the side remained unbeaten at home, clocked up 27 victories and only lost on three occasions, amassing 63 points in the process and finishing 16 clear of runners-up East Fife.
A 4-0 victory at Stenhousemuir to clinch promotion was followed by an enthralling eight-goal thriller at home to Stranraer the following week to make absolutely sure of the title.
Saturday was completed by an excellent on-field performance by the class of 2015, allowing many happy Loons fans to enjoy a beer or two in the well-filled lounge at the final whistle.
