Grant Murray has insisted Raith Rovers must build on Saturday’s Scottish Cup heroics when they host Hamilton in the Championship.
The Stark’s Park boss rightly revelled in Rovers’ 3-2 cup success over Hibs at the weekend but knows that the Fife club’s main focus remains their league campaign.
As such, he has challenged his players to use the confidence gleaned from their game at Easter Road and kick-start their stuttering promotion bid with a win over Accies.
“I’m hoping what happened on Saturday against Hibs will rekindle the form we had,” he said.
“That was one thing we stated to the players: we need to get back to what gave us that 15-game unbeaten run, what got us to a cup tie against Hibs and what got us to a Ramsdens Cup final.
“The players know themselves and they’ve been disappointed with the defeats in previous weeks.
“It was a huge win going to somewhere like Easter Road but I told them, come Monday, we have got to prepare for Saturday because it is back to league business.”
Rovers had not scored a goal in the five league games leading up to their Scottish Cup tie and had only taken one point from a possible 15.
However, Murray was quick to remind his players they were capable of getting a result and it’s a tack he will take again when Accies visit Stark’s Park.
When asked if he had done anything differently, he said: “I think we kept being at the players about belief going into these games.
“I’ve been part of these games before, even at this club, going up to Aberdeen and getting a result, going up to Dens Park and getting a result in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals when you are the underdogs. It was a case of installing that belief.
“We knew we could play like that but it was getting that out of them in big occasions. We just have to take that into the league game against Hamilton.”
Defender Reece Donaldson, who took a nasty blow to the head against Hibs, will be assessed but should be fit for selection, although striker Calum Elliot will remain sidelined.
