Andy Murray just edged out Sir Chris Hoy to win the title of greatest sporting moment.
Andy Murray’s heroic Wimbledon victory has been named as the greatest Scottish sporting moment of all time.
The Dunblane star’s historic triumph just edged out Sir Chris Hoy winning his record-breaking sixth Olympic Gold medal at last year’s Olympic Games in a YouGov poll.
However, Sir Chris claimed a quick turnaround victory over his rival by just edging out the tennis ace in the battle to be named Scotland’s ultimate sporting hero.
Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, former race ace Sir Jackie Stewart and Kenny Dalglish completed the top five.
The Scottish football team’s memorable 1967 victory over then world champions England took the number three slot in the sporting moment poll, closely followed by Archie Gemmil’s breathtaking goal against Holland in the 1978 World Cup.
The Winter Olympics gold by Rhona Martin’s rink and Scotland’s 1990 Calcutta Cup win over England placed joint fifth.
Sir Chris said he was honoured to be named top sporting Scot and was looking forward to a new generation of stars making their mark at the Commonwealth Games.
