A Dundee High School hockey player has been called up to play for Scotland.
At the age of just 13, goalkeeper Rachel Strachan has been chosen for the Scottish Hockey U16 development squad.
Rachel, who plays for her school team and Grove Menzieshill, earned her spot after fending off competition from almost 30 other talented young keepers in a day-long trial.
As well as taking part in regular training sessions at the Scottish National Hockey Centre in Glasgow, between now and July she will also be involved in district games, a tournament in Ulster and potential international matches against England and Wales.
Rachel is being supported by school hockey coaches Iain Strachan and Vikki Bunce as she follows a personal training programme from Scottish Hockey.
The sporty youngster has also been selected for the Perthshire U15 district netball squad.
Rachel said: “I’m delighted to have been chosen for the Scotland squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of stepping up a level in terms of training and playing.”
