Next to appeal ‘extraordinary decision’ to reject Dundee store plans

Kris Miller, Courier, 16/10/13. Picture today at Kingsway West retail park shows Next Home store for business story about plans for development being rejected.
Next is to appeal against a decision by Dundee City Council which it says prevents it opening a £4.3 million store in Kingsway West Retail Park.
The development management committee voted by a narrow majority not to lift a restriction on the amount of clothes and shoes sold at the store.
Next says the viability of the planned Home and Garden outlet would depend on being able to sell more clothes and footwear.
The council refused the bid because it says it would set a dangerous precedent and undermine its policy to protect city centre shopping.
This afternoon, Next told The Courier it expects to appeal the council’s “extraordinary decision” to the Scottish Government.
The company said the plan would create 85 jobs and give Dundee the first store of its kind in Scotland.
