The final online comments by a dying Monifieth woman will be read out at her funeral, her grieving husband has revealed.
Lesley Anne Dakers, who was 48, wrote a “blog from the bed” during her illness.
Her husband Steve, 49, said: “People would respond in messages. Those were people she felt were true friends. Part of her funeral on Thursday will be her last blog.”
Steve met Lesley 13 years ago when he helped to dig her car out of a snowdrift but they only married in August, shortly after she learned that her ovarian cancer was terminal.
“I loved her so much. I miss her so much. We just knew each other very well,” her husband said.
“She was diagnosed in April seven months later she was gone. It was just shocking.
“It was just the way she faced it. She was really brave and humorous. I think she was completely courageous but she said herself that she was scared every day.
“She was a really bright, intelligent woman.”
Lesley worked as an administrator at Dundee University and loved travelling and dogs.
Steve said: “In August we found out that she didn’t have long to go. It’s like being hit by a truck
“We found out on the Thursday or Friday, so I proposed over the weekend. First thing Monday we jumped in the car and I said we’ll travel around Angus to find a registrar who would marry us.
“On August 20 we got married. It was great it just felt right.”
Steve said the months after Lesley’s diagnosis were extremely difficult, adding: “We tried to make the most of it.”
He said the support from staff at Ninewells Hospital and cancer charity workers from Macmillan and Monifieth Health Centre had been “brilliant” during Lesley’s illness.
Lesley’s funeral is at Dundee Crematorium on Thursday.
