Carnoustie folk are being encouraged to give council chiefs a few pointers over how they would like to see things made easier for visitors to find their way around town.
The question whether signs for visitors are fit for purpose was one of the issues posed by the Big Carnoustie Conversation last year.
The conversation was one of a series of design charrettes taking place in burghs across Angus events aimed at developing a long-term vision and action plan to custom-fit each town.
One of the requirements that emerged from the Big Conversation was the need for an audit of visitor signs, as well as proposals to point the way in the future.
In the latest step of that journey, Angus Council’s communities team is taking a walk around town on Wednesday February 17 with tourism and roads colleagues to assess the existing signs.
The team has said it would be delighted if residents would be willing to give them the benefit of their local knowledge by joining the walkabout.
Carnoustie Development Group and Colourful Carnoustie will be participating in the tour as it focuses on the links between the seafront and the high street.
Although Carnoustie’s place in the upper echelons of world golf guarantees thousands of visitors annually, the lack of benefit felt beyond the immediate vicinity of the Open-hosting Championship Course has previously been raised as a concern.
The walkabout departs at 1pm from the Panmure Centre in Kinloch Street and then again from the Carnoustie Golf Hotel at 1.20pm.
Brechin, Carnoustie and Forfar have all staged charrettes, with Arbroath’s having also just taken place and on in Montrose is coming up.
The Future Forfar vision was recently unveiled, with ideas to create a town centre “buzz” high on the agenda.
The Forfar charrette identified opportunities for the community to come together to take over key buildings, including the Access office and Canmore Rooms at the town centre municipal buildings, which are to become surplus to requirements.
A calendar of events has also been discussed, including a cycling festival, bridie events celebrating Forfar’s famed savoury, and commemorative events based on the story of the Forfar witches.
