A member of the public called for assistance after the blaze was spotted on the neighbourhood greenspace shortly after 8pm. Crews attended and discovered a bin on fire and swiftly extinguished it. A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said it had not spread to other parts of the park. Though the incident was short lived, it angered local people who posted on social media. One wrote: “To the person who set fire to the park in St Mary’s, get a life. A lot of people use the park and don’t need it ruined.”
