Police are growing concerned for a Fife teenager who has not been seen since becoming separated from a group of friends in Methil on Friday night.
Thomas Brown, 17, who lives near Cupar, had been with other young people in the Steelworks Brae area of Methil when he went missing around 10pm.
The teenager is normally in regular contact with family members via text and phone calls and was reported missing around 2pm on Saturday when they had not heard from him for a number of hours.
On Sunday, anxious family and friends helped police scour the area as the search intensified.
A police helicopter was brought in to scan the mouth of the River Leven and the coastline, while officers combed the ground.
The search will continue at first light on Monday. It is understood underwater search equipment will be brought in.
Inspector Andrew Sneddon, who is co-ordinating the inquiry, said: “It is out of character for Thomas not to be in touch with his family and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information as to his whereabouts.
“It may be the case that he has met other friends and does not realise we and his family are worried about him. We just want to be assured that he is safe and well.
“The area in which he was last seen is well used by dog walkers and I would urge them to let us know if they see anything which may help us trace Thomas.”
Thomas is described as 5ft 5in, of slim build, with blue eyes and his hair is shaved at the sides but longer on the top. When last seen he was wearing a grey hooded top with a blue hood, a black Nike t-shirt with an orange logo and grey track suit trousers with denim pockets.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
Police in Fife are currently dealing with three missing person searches.
Glenrothes man Allan Bryant, 23, and Kirkcaldy man Sandy Clarke, 37, went missing earlier this year without trace.
There is no suggestion the disappearances are connected.
