Two members of the same Dundee family could soon be serving MSPs for the North-East of Scotland.
With Labour’s Jenny Marra already a list MSP for the area, her brother Michael, 34, has now been placed on Scottish Labour’s panel of prospective parliamentary candidates for the next Holyrood elections in 2016.
Mr Marra, who lives in Birkhill but was born and brought up in Dundee, announced his nomination with a promise to fight inequality and poverty in Dundee, Angus, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
The former St John’s High School pupil, who is married to Melanie, was a former adviser to the ex-Scottish Labour Party leader Iain Gray and a previous organiser for the Scottish Labour Party.
He also worked at OxFam and now at Dundee University.
His nomination has already sparked dozens of messages of goodwill, including from former first minister Jack McConnell and Dundee West MP Jim McGovern and his wife Norma, a councillor in Dundee.
