Hundreds of litres of bootleg booze have been seized in raids across Fife.
Officers from Fife Council’s trading standards team joined forces with an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) specialist taskforce and Police Scotland to seize the illicit alcohol.
Officers visited around 60 shops looking for illegal alcohol sales as part of a national initiative.
HMRC’s alcohol taskforce manager for Scotland Chris Brett said the operation was part of ongoing work with partner agencies to target the illicit alcohol supply chain.
Officers from HMRC and the council will now decide if the shops will face further tax investigations or have their alcohol licences reviewed.
Roy Stewart, protective services senior manager, said: “I am very pleased that this swoop has been successful and the amount of products seized demonstrates the need to be vigilant.
“Trading Standards will continue to work with HMRC to ensure consumers and legitimate traders are protected from the impact of this illegal activity.
“This joint initiative is part of our Fake Free Fife campaign, which is working to reduce the impact of counterfeit and illegal goods sold in the kingdom.
“The illegal trade of products like alcohol and tobacco can be used to fund crime. These black market sales can have a highly detrimental effect on legitimate retailers and even damage people’s health.”
