Dundee is to host a prestigious international indoor hockey tournament later this month.
Eight women’s teams from across European will take part in the EuroHockey Indoor Championship at Dundee International Sports Complex (DISC) from February 19 to 21.
It is the first time in 20 years the competition has been held in Dundee.
Organiser Bobby Ralph said it would cost around £15,000 to stage the tournament.
He said: “We’ve got teams coming from across Europe to compete with seven clubs from across Europe taking part from Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, Turkey, and, of course, Dundee taking part.
“All the games will be live-streamed over the internet.
“It will cost £2 for spectators and the entrance fee also includes a match programme.”
School children will be allowed in free of charge in a bid to increase interest and participation in the sport.
Matches will begin at 9am each day with the final games ending at 7.30pm each day.
Mr Ralph said fundraising is under way to help meet the costs of staging the three-day tournament, which includes the cost of bringing teams and officials to Dundee for the event.
Anyone who wants to help the club raise money for the tournament can donate online or contact Marlyn Gibson via marlyn.gibson1@hotmail.co.uk or Bobby Ralph via bushay04@gmail.com
The eight teams will be divided into two pools for the event.
Joining Dundee Wanderers in Pool A are are Bowdon Hightown from England, Belgian side Royal Pingouin HC and Ards from Ireland.
Pool B comprises Iris Hockey Lambersart from France, Rot Weiss Wettingen from Switzerland, Mladost from Croatia and Turkish side Highway HC.
However, teams will play matches against all sides in the tournament, not just those in their pools.
Dundee Wanderers is the city’s largest hockey club.
It was formed in 1934 and currently has six men’s outdoor and indoor teams and two ladies’ indoor and outdoor teams.
The ladies’ section was formed in 1996 and the firsts won the Scottish women’s National Outdoor League Division 3 in 2004, followed a year later by the national indoor title.
