Alloa have reported worldwide interest in the managerial vacancy left by Paul Hartley including one applicant from Australia.
Wasps chairman Mike Mulraney admitted he has been blown away by the number, and calibre, of people who want the Recreation Park job.
More than 40 have already applied although Paddy Connolly, Hartley’s number two before the former Hearts, Celtic and Scotland midfielder resigned at the weekend, will be in charge of the team for Saturday’s Championship clash against Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park.
“The most important thing is getting the right man in place. Getting it right is more important than getting it quick,” said Mulraney.
Alloa skipper Darren Young has already emerged as a contender.
Elgin City’s Ross Jack yesterday joined a growing list of bosses that have parted company with their clubs this year.
Berwick’s Ian Little and Stenhousemuir’s Martyn Corrigan have both been dismissed in the past 10 days while Queen’s Park’s Gardner Speirs left on December 21 and Hartley last weekend.
Jack was Scotland’s second longest-serving boss behind Dick Campbell at Forfar having joined the Borough Briggs men five years ago when they were rock bottom of the Third Division.
The Spiders, currently adrift at the foot of League Two, have appointed former St Mirren and Queen of the South manager Gus McPherson as Speirs’ successor.
