Dundee Stars need to get off the roller coaster

Marc Lefebvre describes Dundee Stars’ form as like being on a roller coaster.

It is, according to the coach, up one day and down the next and he said: “What we need is consistency.”

The situation was underscored by last weekend’s double-header when Stars lost 5-2 at Fife Flyers and edged Braehead Clan 2-1 at Dundee Ice Arena.

That now means a five-way tie on four points in Challenge Cup Group A, with Dundee leading the way with Braehead second, Belfast Giants third and Fife fourth with Edinburgh bottom.

The Canadian playcaller said: “To go out against Braehead and win is huge for us and if we want to win championships teams like Braehead are the teams you have to beat.”

He admitted: “We are a Jekyll and Hyde team right now. I’m trying to find consistency. We’re excellent one night and not another.”

Flyers’ head coach Todd Dutiaume praised Dundee despite his side’s victory over them at Rosslyn Street.

The Canadian admitted: “They have a good team there.

“We took stock of ourselves last week and the guys responded well.

“We raised the level of the training sessions and they (the players) came out and showed that. It was a productive week.”

Dutiaume was also pleased that five players scored and said: “We have depth in the line-up.

“Our three lines are producing and that is really good to see.”

Dundee Tigers let slip a 2-1 lead to go down 3-2 at Solway Sharks in the Scottish National League.

The Dumfries side’s last two goals came in the dying minutes, with the winner one second from time.

Ian Carstairs, one of the club’s senior players, and a former player/coach, said: “We’re angry that we let the game slip.”

Paul Guilcher and Kris Phillips netted for Tigers and Carstairs said: “This was hugely disappointing.

“We need to make sure we focus until the final buzzer in games. We can’t keep chasing a tight game and we must be sensible.”
