‘This has restored my faith in human nature’ act of kindness replaces stroke victim’s stolen TV

Terry Small has had his television replaced and his faith in human nature restored.
Terry Small has had his television replaced and his faith in human nature restored.

Dundee stroke victim Terry Small has settled down to his favourite TV programmes again, his faith in human nature restored.

The partially paralysed 56-year-old sat frozen with fear when a brazen thief walked into his flat in Provost Road to steal his TV, his main source of enjoyment, while he was watching it.

He also walked off with his iPad, mobile phone and e-Reader device in the opportunist crime.

Since our story on the incident on Thursday, the former ambulance technician has been overwhelmed with goodwill gestures from readers.

He has received countless offers of replacement TVs as well as mobile phones and gifts to cheer him up.

At the front of the queue was the second hand retailer Cash Converters. In an arrangement with radio station Wave 102, the shop presented Terry with a TV to replace the 40-inch flatscreen LG model that was stolen.

John Burnett, sales adviser, said Cash Converters were delighted to help Terry.

He said: “We have robust procedures in place to check the background of property that people bring to us. We have a good relationship with the police which helps us to prevent crime and put a stop to stolen goods coming through our doors.

“What happened was awful and we will be extra vigilant for anything that we are offered that may have come from Terry’s house.”

Wave 102 presenter Gary Robinson said: “When we read the report in The Courier we were horrified at what happened to Terry. We felt we could do something to help so we contacted our clients Cash Converters and they agreed to replace the TV.”

Terry said: “It’s very good of them to give me the TV and I thank everyone who has offered to help. There are some bad people out there but there are very many good people. This has restored my faith in human nature.”

He had unlocked his door for his nephew to visit but sat horrified and helpless as an intruder strode in and took his possessions.
