Tasting Rooms restaurant in Dundee closes down

The Tasting Rooms restaurant in Dundee has closed.

A notice has been posted on the door of the Whitehall Crescent establishment saying: “We regret to inform you that due to circumstances outwith our control and the financial climate, the Tasting Rooms are closing permanently.

“Many thanks for your support over the last three years.”

The restaurant opened on Whitehall Crescent at the end of 2010 after the previous Tasting Rooms venture on South Ward Road closed following a fire in 2009.

Director Murdie Smith said at the time his company, TR Deli Ltd, would invest £80,000 in the Whitehall Crescent building previously occupied by Sheridan’s wine bar.

The restaurant, which is understood to have employed about a dozen people, was in a good location to take advantage of the anticipated boost in trade from the V&A and central waterfront redevelopment.

Records at Companies House show the restaurant was owned by TR 2011 Ltd, with its registered office at the accountancy firm of Findlay & Co, Dudhope Terrace, Dundee.

Hugh Grant, a partner of the firm, said through his secretary that because of client confidentiality he was not able to speak about the Tasting Rooms.

The firm’s directors are listed as Mr Smith and Derek Dolan, neither of whom could be contacted.

In the most recent set of accounts, TR 2011’s abbreviated balance at September 30 2012 showed that its liabilities were £40,000 greater than its assets.
