Brechin man facing multiple charges of rape, abduction and assault

An Angus man faces 29 historic charges of domestic assault, rape, abduction, indecent assault, making threats and breach of the peace.
Allan Johnstone, 49, of City Road, Brechin, appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday.
The alleged offences are against several women at addresses in Dundee and Angus between 1983 and 2005.
He faces seven charges of rape, one repeatedly, and one charge of indecent assault.
He also faces four charges of abduction and detaining women against their will, including in one of the charges, depriving a woman of clothes and another of locking a woman in a porch area without toilet facilities and forcing her to eat off the floor.
He faces eight charges of assault against several women, sometimes striking them with objects. Further charges relate to making threats of violence towards women and their family members.
In addition seven charges are for breaches of the peace.
Johnstone appeared from custody before Sheriff George Way who returned him in custody until his next court appearance.
The case against Johnstone was continued for further examination.
