Greg Stewart staying focused on Dundee not transfer speculation

Greg Stewart insists he will simply continue trying to do his best for Dundee and ignore any speculation linking him with a move to other clubs.

The striker, who scored his first goal since September in Saturday’s 4-0 demolition of Hamilton, is thought to be on the radar of several sides including Rangers and English Championship outfit Brighton.

However, the 25-year-old is determined not to be distracted by the attention and instead intends to let his football for the Dark Blues do his talking.

Stewart, who picked up his sixth booking of the season against Accies and faces an anxious wait to find out if he is suspended, said about the speculation: “That’s just football. These things come up and you get your mates and your family asking, ‘What’s happening?’.

“I don’t know and I just have to get on with playing for Dundee that’s who I play for and I just need to do that.

“I try not to think about it all too much.”

When asked if it was flattering to be linked with a move, he said: “It is always nice but as I have said I will just keep on trying to concentrate on my own game and if something happens, then something happens.

“I just need to focus on doing well for Dundee.

“I am delighted I am playing football every week and I am enjoying it here.

“They are a good bunch of lads here as well.

“It has not come off for us in the last few weeks but we are still in the top six after the Hamilton result.

“Hopefully, this will give us a wee lift and we can kick on over the festive period.”

Meanwhile, Julen Etxabeguren has had an operation on the eye injury he sustained against Motherwell last week with Dundee boss Paul Hartley admitting the Spanish defender will be out for while.

The manager said: “We’re talking at least four weeks without doing anything at all before he comes back into the reckoning. It’s a real nasty one.”

Hartley is also anxiously awaiting news on the extent of the injuries suffered in the Hamilton game by Gary Irvine (medial ligament) and Kevin Thomson (hamstring).
