A police van was involved in a crash as it rushed to an emergency on Wednesday afternoon.
It collided with a car on Dunfermline’s busy Halbeath Road.
An elderly couple, aged 82 and 87, had to be cut free from their Mitsubishi.
They were treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken by ambulance to Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, as a precaution.
The police officer driving the marked Ford van was shaken but otherwise uninjured.
An investigation has been launched into the incident which occurred at the junction with Lambert Avenue around 3pm.
Both Halbeath Road and Lambert Avenue are expected to be closed for several hours as the investigation is conducted.
Inspector Brenda Sinclair appealed to anyone in the area at the time who saw either or both vehicles to get in touch with Police Scotland by phoning 101.
