Through evocative photographs and historical documents, a new exhibition at the AK Bell Library in Perth charts the history of the town’s Murray Royal Hospital.
The Murray Royal was founded as a lunatic asylum for the people of Perth and surrounding districts under the will of James Murray of Tarsappie.
The main block was built between 1822-1827 and a plaque marking Murray’s bequest was erected in the central tower before 1838.
PLUS Perth, the charity which organised the exhibition, is keen to ensure that the history and original benevolence of the hospital is retained for community benefit.
